Send me your available cell number

This is a targeted scam attempt designed to look like it is coming from the Dean or a department head. The subject asks the recipient to send their available cell number and the body of the email just contains the signature of the person who the scammer is trying to impersonate.

If you reply to the email, you'll see that it doesn't actually go to a Purdue address, but is instead going to a Gmail address.

If you provide your cell phone number, the scammer will text you and ask you to purchase gift cards. The scammer will act as if the matter is urgent and will attempt to intimidate you if you refuse to purchase cards for them.
